As the sun sets over 310 Bison Ranch, Steve Unger sits in his farm ATV and watches his bison, more commonly called buffalo, run across the field. The old western song “Home on the Range” plays in his head as he watches them. It’s been a lifelong dream for 71-year-old Unger to own a “home where the buffalo roam.”
This buffalo ranch in Jacksonville is the manifestation of decades of daydreaming, years of planning and searching for real estate and months of finding the right buffalo. Here he can share his fascination with the animals while sustaining himself through retirement.
